The diverse parliamentary choir sang 'Amazing Grace', a globally renowned tune.

Dr Hastings attracted laughter after he made mention of President Uhuru's wisdom not to join the choir.

"Thank you for having me back again with you. It is a huge treat to be back in Kenya and I noticed that there is a big theme around singing at this prayer breakfast. I noticed too Mr President that you were wise enough to join not the parliamentary choir. I also noticed that in their first song they called themselves wretched but those are words from Amazing Grace," said Dr Hastings.

The National Prayer Breakfast was aimed at bringing the nation together in a spirit of prayerful introspection.

3,000 guests were invited to the annual event that was held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

Other speakers included President Uhuru, South Sudan President Salva Kiir and Deputy President Dr William Ruto who emphasised the need for unity in the quest to ensure that Kenya meets its development goals.

Uhuru said that if the leaders took to heart what was said during the breakfast meeting then Kenya would be transformed in five years.
