In one of the most unlikely events, ODM leader Raila Odinga on Friday night sneaked into Nairobi Hospital where he interacted with patients, an aide has confirmed.
Mr Odinga is widely referred to as 'stingy' politician, a narrative which his aides passionately dispute with some saying he doesn't like publicity on philanthropic activities.
"ODM party leader Raila Odinga gave an impromptu visit to the Nairobi Hospital's Mater Misericordia's wing and cleared all the bills for the patients summing up to Sh20 million.
"All the patients including the former Makadara MP Mr Fred Omido had their bills clearedHe was accompanied by Makadara MP Hon George Aladwa, who is also the ODM Nairobi boss," confirmed the aide.
For close to one hour, Odinga interacted with patients as Mr Aladwa, who was also hospitalised in the same facility few months ago, took him around.
And on Saturday morning, Mr Odinga jetted to Addis Ababa in the company of President Uhuru Kenyatta where they are attending AU Summit that focuses on restructuring of the institution.
Deputy President William Ruto is among few politicians who generously donate to the less fortunate in media presence, an act which is often dismissed as 'PR gimmicks'.
