On Friday, Echesa was arrested at Malinya minutes after leaving DP William Ruto's function. He was taken the Kakamega Central Police Station and is expected to be charged over Matungu killings.

But photos making rounds on social media, shows Echesa enjoying privileges including hosting his guests at a well furnished office. Suspects are usually not allowed to freely mingle with guests in police cells without surveillance from officers.

In one of the photos, Echesa is seen exchanging warm greetings with Nandi Senator Samson Cheralgei and three others. There is no sign of police presence.

Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i warned that the government will arrest those involved in crime related activities. He also announced deployment of more officers.

"The days of those criminals who have been attacking villagers and killing them are numbered. From today, we are deploying the GSU and increasing the number of other security officers to restore sanity," he said.

Early this year, Echesa was sacked by President Uhuru Kenyatta but reasons behind the move remains unknown. Before, he had picked war with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“I want to dare you Tinga wherever you are, come and sack me, kuja unifute. Kama ni wewe appointing authority Kenya hii, come and sack me please. I have a very young family to look after…” he said during a past public rally.
