An Administration Police officer from Isiolo County shot and killed his girlfriend before shooting himself in the head.
County Commissioner John Ondego who confirmed the incident said the AP officer had come from duty at around 1 pm on Thursday.
The 47-year-old officer was having lunch at the AP officers’ canteen where his lover was working and managed the canteen.
According to Commissioner Ondego, the officer who had served for 25 years was still dressed in his uniform and armed with G3 rifle when he went to the canteen.
While he was having his lunch, the officer got into a heated argument with his lover before he shot her and then turned the gun on himself.
“The officer had just had lunch at the AP line, where his lover operated a canteen. Afterward, they got into a scuffle which turned to the unfortunate incident.”
“This is a regrettable and unexpected incident since the officer had been deployed in the morning for his normal duties,” said Mr Ondego as quoted by nation.co.ke.
The commissioner said the bodies were taken to the mortuary at Isiolo County Referral Hospital.
Mr Ondego further said that such cases are common among officers and urged the officers to discuss their differences and seek counseling to resolve issues affecting them.
