The handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga brought about peace after a lengthy period of political turbulence.

With peace and political calm, the resolve to fight corruption networks and cartels became the new agenda for both leaders who previously could not see eye to eye.

Friday arrests became the order of the day with the change of guard at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Office of the Director of Public Prosecution. The new sheriffs in town have restored some level of trust in Kenyans.

Now, as the old adage goes that the guilty are always afraid, this has happened and in all honesty and those culpable should really be afraid. This team which is currently inundated with multiple cases will eventually prevail.

Just like cancer symptoms especially stage two cancer which is overwhelmed by persistent focus by oncologists; the corrupt in Kenya can surely be dealt with in a well-organised and systematic approach as we see today. Asset recovery and attachment of ill-gotten wealth, shock arrests and eventually, fast prosecution will give the hopeless and discontented youth and women of Kenya hope that their motherland can become a better place for them to thrive in.

Onto the corridors of justice, with a protest vote at the just-concluded Law Society of Kenya elections which saw an independent and sober human rights activist become a male representative at the Judicial Service Commission, Kenya should now handle corruption and other economic-related crimes expeditiously.

My appeal to the David Maraga led Judiciary is to formulate a fast-tracking and expeditious prosecution and determination of high calibre economic crimes reminiscent of the election petitions which were concluded within specific timelines.

Just like in Tanzania where President John Pombe Magufuli has warned looters that they would rather take poison than steal from the public, looters in Kenya should also be very worried because a tide is blowing and when it gets to them; theirs will be a different story.
