An elected MP from Gusii region has dismissed a planned tour to the US by a section of MPs.
Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka termed the planned trip as a waste of time and misuse of public funds.
"The training the MPs are claiming that they will attend in Nashville, Tennessee should be conducted in the country as this will help in saving taxpayers money. I will not be part of the greedy lawmakers travelling to the US for the alleged gravy train," said Onyonka on Wednesday morning during an interview at Radio Citizen.
The former ODM party members= said the tens of millions the government will use to pay for flights for 85 lawmakers and other members of staff should be used to fund development projects in various constituencies.
Onyonka maintained that Kenyans did not elect MPs to embezzle funds through unnecessary spending and touring to foreign counties.
"It is a big shame that the MPs are planning to travel outside the country even when the government is struggling to get funds to fund development projects. The government should cut down unnecessary foreign travel," said Onyonka.
The lawmaker urged his colleagues to stop being greedy.
