Former Turbo Constituency Jubilee aspirant Kevin Okwara has hit out at politicians criticising President Uhuru Kenyatta for borrowing money from foreign countries.
In a post on his official Facebook post on Monday, Okwara said any serious businessman does not fear to borrow, adding that 'some of the most wealthy guys around are the most mortgaged'.
"President Uhuru should not listen to some Kenyans who lack entrepreneurial faith. He should borrow more and more. Anybody willing to lend should be our friend. When you want to borrow Sh10 million you don’t seek advice from a guy struggling with M-Pesa credit. We need to develop this country quickly," said Okwara.
He noted that Kenyans should be discussing how to properly manage what we borrow and not that we should not borrow.
"America is one of the most mortgaged countries in the world yet the most progressive. Some of the guys shouting the loudest have never managed simple loans. It’s all about proper financial management," he added.
This comes after a section of politicians called upon President Kenyatta to stop borrowing money from foreign countries, arguing that heavy borrowing was chocking the country's economy.
The Head of State's recent trip to China to secure a loan for the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kisumu was criticised by a section of Kenyans.
State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, however, rubbished the reports, noting that the extension of the SGR was not part of Uhuru's agenda during the China visit.
