Founder and chairman of Mount Kenya University Simon Gicharu has turned down an offer to work for Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
In a Kenya Gazette notice on Friday, Gicharu had been appointed as the chairman of committee on pending bills.
Gicharu, who is also the chairman of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) said he won't take up the job since he was currently working for the national government under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"I wish to notify the general public that I will not be taking up the position of head of committee on pending bills at Kiambu County. As Chairman, REREC, my focus is the implementation of the President's Big Four Agenda," his tweet was quoted by Daily Nation on Monday.
Gicharu further told Daily Nation that he rejected the appointment because it was done without his knowledge.
He said neither Waititu nor his Finance Executive Committee Member Francis Kigo Njenga contacted him before they gazetted his name.
"Basic courtesy should have dictated that they reach out to me before making such an announcement. At least by doing so, they would have gotten my views on whether I have the knowledge, skills and time to discharge such a task. That said, I will not be taking up the job," Gicharu said.
There have been complaints that Kiambu County was taking too long to pay suppliers and contractors who offered their services, some dating back to former Governor William Kabogo's regime.
