9 people were injured in a Friday evening road accident along the Rongo-Awendo Highway, at Matafari area in Rongo, Migori county.
The accident involved a tractor transporting sugar cane and a passenger matatu.
The injured were ferried to several hospitals in Rongo and the neighboring Kisii county for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui said that the Rongo-bound matatu collided with the tractor which was headed in the opposite direction.
He told Citizen Digital that one passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Kisii Level Five Hospital.
Five others, he said, were taken to the Migori Level Four Hospital, with the remaining being admitted at the Rongo Sub-county health facility.
He called for more care among road users, urging them to adhere to all traffic rules to avoid such incidents.
The OCPD added that the police are still tying to establish the cause of the accident.
