Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu reckons that the region will get back on track in terms of development should leaders desist from engaging in 2022 succession debate.
On his Facebook page, the first time lawmaker on Friday promised to lead by example by dropping from the conversation, arguing that the region should focus on development.
According to Ngunjiri, the leaders from the region had agreed in a conference at Naivasha but they walked separate ways due to President Uhuru Kenyatta succession debate.
"We had started so well last year in Naivasha, and then in Nyeri when we met the President. Then 2022 politics crept back in and we went in different directions. And it will keep happening as long as some of us involve ourselves in premature 2022 politics," said Ngunjiri.
He asked leaders from the Central Kenya region to consider dropping early succession politics, adding that the move will enable the community to fight for the development cake.
"But if only we could agree to kill this 2022 conversation until the right time, as the President keeps asking us to, we would do even better than our colleagues from Rift Valley.
"And our people would get the development they need. I am ready to do that. But can the rest of us? Will they? Or we keep fighting?" observed Ngunjiri.
Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta accused a section of Mt Kenya leaders of engaging in early campaigns, adding that he will crush them if they continue derailing his development agenda.
