Residents of Kogelo in Siaya County have a special message they want opposition chief Raila Odinga to convey to former US President Barack Obama.
The residents who spoke to KTN News on Monday morning ahead of Obama's visit to the village where Obama's father was born acknowledged the fact that they may not get the opportunity to meet the former Illinois Senator in person and therefore, want him to address them outside the venue where Obama will launch Sauti Kuu, an NGO founded by Obama's sister, Auma Obama, .
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Nyangoma Informal Traders Association chairperson Agnes Rajula said they would be happy if "their son" speaks to them before flying off to South Africa.
"He is one of us and we will be happy if he addressed even along the road," Rajula said.
"This is a high profile visit and because many dignitaries will be accompanying him, some of us may be blocked from attending the function. Raila should help us convince him to speak to us. We will appreciate."
Obama will fly to Kogelo in Siaya on an official visit on Monday morning and will launch Sauti Kuu alongside other recreational projects in the lakeside county.
He arrived on Sunday and met President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga. The visit is his first in Africa since he left office.
