The beneficiaries are families that have been facing starvation as a result of the floods along River Galana which washed away their farm produce and crops three months ago when Kilifi and the neighbouring Tana River counties experienced heavy rainfall.

While donating the foodstuffs, Jumwa said the exercise is one of the short-term mitigation measures she has embarked on to avert hunger while at the same time finding for a lasting solution.

The former Kilifi County woman representative further promised to seek for compensation for all the victims of floods from the government, especially farmers in areas such as Jilore, Kakoneni, Mkondoni, Kombeni, Timboni and Marikano whose farms were compromised following the heavy rainfall.

The lawmaker also affirmed that she will embark on finding long lasting solutions to the floods that hamper farming by sinking boreholes and giving out water pumps, pipes, generators and fertilisers and better farming methods.

Jumwa said the move will increase earnings, improve livelihoods of the people besides increasing agricultural output.
