Touring the ODM stronghold amid encroachment by ambitious Deputy President William Ruto, Oparanya said the party's strategy will also include bringing more youths on board to play part in decision making.

"We should not give him any space. It's time that we lock him completely and this is possible if we do massive membership recruitment," Oparanya said.

He added: "The party now targets more youths who should be mentored to join leadership positions. We must embark of a series of social functions to encounter Tanga Tanga team. They don't deserve to make inroads here."

Accompanying the ODM deputy party leader were 15 MCAs from Kakamega, several local ODM leaders, MCAs and Senator Okong'o Mogeni.

The team had earlier toured Nyabite and Motagara SDA churches before meeting at Damside Hotel. Governor John Nyagarama left earlier to join Chief Justice David Maraga at Kaspul Kabondo.

Mogeni said: "This remains an ODM zone. We shall empower you to zone it from our competitors. That's what we must do."
