Ouko was found dead on the foot of Got Alila in Koru, Muhoroni, on February 13, 1990, after going missing from his Koru Complex home the previous night.

Three decades later, people in the region, those who knew him and their fellows who would be born later remain shaken regarding the death of the former Kisumu MP.

Ouko was found partially burnt, next to him was a pistol which detectives would later hilariously claim he used to kill himself before dousing himself in acid as a can of acid was also one of the things found lying next to him.

In an apparent bid to ensure that the place where he was found lying lifeless is never forgotten, locals have sunk a metal rod into the ground on the exact spot.

The metal rod remains standing 30 years later, though most residents remain very shaken and unwilling to address or talk on the issue.

The body was found by Paul Shikuku, a herdsboy who hails from the nearby Ainamoi area just across the River Nyando in the neighbouring Kericho County.

Despite attempts be then President Daniel Moi to uncover the motive behind the death and subject the perpetrators to the law, nothing has since happened.

Some of the suspects who were linked to the murder include the late Nicholas Biwott, a very powerful figure during Moi's reign and then Nakuru District Commissioner Jonah Anguka.
