Former US President Barack Obama met 16-year-old environmental activist Greta Thunberg at his Washington office.
The two had a chat on climate change among other hot-button environmental issues with the former head of state pledging to support the Swedish teenager.
It was an animated chat with the two bumping fists at one point in their interaction.
"Just 16, @GretaThunberg is already one of our planet’s greatest advocates. Recognizing that her generation will bear the brunt of climate change, she’s unafraid to push for real action. She embodies our vision at the @ObamaFoundation: A future shaped by young leaders like her, "Obama wrote on Twitter after their meeting.
Thunberg is in the United States where she is set to address a United Nations Summit later this week on environmental issues.
She made her trip on a zero-emission yacht across the Atlantic ocean.
Her protests against deliberate action on climate change have been replicated across the world, catapulting her to global fame.
As part of her commitment to environmental issues, she does not travel on planes in her bid to reduce the impact of her travels on the environment.
Thunberg has hit out at political leaders of the world for not doing enough to roll the impact of the spectre of climate change.
