Kenyan human rights activists are expected to stage a protest outside the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi to demand for the release of popular musician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.
According to human rights defender and former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Boniface Mwangi, the protests will take place on Wednesday along Riverside Drive where the Ugandan Embassy is located.
The activist noted that Bobi Wine's arrest, and subsequent continued detention at a highly secured military camp at Makindye in the outskirts of Uganda's capital Kampala is illegal.
According to Mwangi, if Bobi Wine has any charges to answer to against the State of Uganda, then he should be arraigned before a court of law.
He made the remarks hours after it emerged that residents of Busia town in Busia County had staged demonstrations at the border town demanding for the release of Mr Wines, who represents the Kyadondo East constituency in the Ugandan Parliament.
"The people of Western l love you! Thank you for leading on this. Nairobi we are on for #FreeBobiWine on Wednesday, 22nd August. We are marching to the Ugandan Embassy on Riverside drive," Mwangi posted on his Twitter handle.
Among those said to be organizing the protests include human rights activist Al Amin Kimathi who was once detained in Uganda over terrorism links. The Law Society of Kenya is also among those planning the Wednesday protests.
Bobi Wines was arrested a week ago, and allegedly tortured following violent protests that rocked Arua town in Northern Western Uganda in the last day of campaigns for the Arua Municipality MP by-election.
