A middle-aged man has gone into hiding after he stabbed his wife using a kitchen knife.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening at Maya village in Keumbu, Kisii County.
Neighbours said the man Edward Onsinyo who has been living with his newly married wife Esther Nyabonyi stabbed the woman when she returned home late.
"Onsinyo returned to their rented house and found his wife missing. The wife came back at 8 pm and this angered the husband leading to a quarrel," noted Wilfred Kimasu.
Mr. Kimasu said Onsinyo was heard loudly questioning his wife where he was coming from but, the wife answered rudely prompting to the stabbing.
"Onsinyo picked a kitchen knife which he used to stab his wife. The victim screamed for help from members of the public," said Kimasu.
Area chief Peter Magero said Onsinyo escaped from the house when neighbours arrived.
"Neighbors rushed the woman to Keumbu hospital where she is currently recapturing from the stab wound. Onsinyo escaped death since the neighbours stormed the house armed with crude weapons," said the chief.
Magero warned men against assaulting their wives.
The chief assured that the suspect is being hunted down to be arrested.
