The latest is the attempt by parliamentarians to increase their perks, a move that has been rejected by the President, who has accused the members of greed and vowed to not ascent to it.

Speaking during a Christmas luncheon at PCEA Kerugoya Child center in Kiambu, Monday, Raila threw his weight behind the Head of State on the issue.

He argued that if granted, other public servants will also demand for more, resulting in more burden on the shoulder of the taxpayer who is already grappling with a heavy load.

"I support the president’s stand to reject MPs’ increment of their salaries because if it is passed it will lead to the teachers, public service, police and other workers to push for salary increment.

Where will the money come from apart from burdening Kenyans?” Raila is quoted by the Citizen Digital.

He also pledged his full support for the President's ongoing war on graft, after Uhuru recently publicly vowed to give his all towards the eradication of the menace.

Raila hit out at leaders crying foul in the ongoing crackdown on corruption suspects, telling them to let the relevant bodies work uninterruptedly.

“The fight against corruption will continue and I support President Uhuru Kenyatta over this and those leaders saying that it was only one community being targeted should know that those implicated were not employed to work for the community and everybody should carry their own cross," he is further quoted.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parry chief has since taken over as the African Union Envoy for Infrastructure Development.
