Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday went against calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta for leaders to end politicking and work for the people.
While speaking at the Kahawa Wendani ACK church, Waititu called on Kiambu residents to vote for Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
“Sasa tumkaribishe rais wetu wa 2022, tumkaribisheni na ikifika 2022 tumchague akuwe rasi wetu (Let us welcome our 2022 president, when 2022 comes let us vote for him),” Waititu said.
The governor had accompanied the DP to the church function which was attended by other leaders including area MP Simon King’ara, former MP Esther Kabogo and nominated senator Isaac Mwaura.
President Uhuru has been calling on leaders to stop 2022 politics and instead direct their energies on development and Waititu’s remarks might put him at loggerheads with the head of state.
Speaking at the church, Deputy President William Ruto avoided politics.
He emphasized on the need for leaders to work together for the development of the nation.
“The President is leading us in uniting all people from all corners of the country and all the people,” Ruto said.
The DP also told residents that he had informed the head of state that he was to visit the church.
