Kenyatta University management has disowned a letter doing rounds on social media allegedly giving dates as to when students should resume.
The letter dated October 9 2019, students have been asked to be back to school on 1 January 2020 with a fine of Sh9,999.
‘’This is to inform you that the senate has decided that normal duties will resume as from Ist January 2020. Each student will be required to pay a fine of Ksh.9,999/= to cater for the university damages and restore normal operations. Failure will result to taking a semester off,’’ reads part of the notice.
The university has now termed the notice as FAKE.
The university was closed indefinitely following student demonstrations that started on October 7 2019.
The demonstrations, which were initially meant to be peaceful, turned chaotic after the students blocked the Thika Super Highway.
The police were forced to intervene and disperse the students using teargas, something that turned the demonstrations even more chaotic.
On October 8 2019, the students continued with their demonstrations destroying the school properties and disrupting learning activities.
Running battles between the police and the students were witnessed almost the whole day.
In the evening, the school released an internal memo that asked all students to vacant the school premises immediately.
