Deputy President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i could be embroiled in a vicious internal war, and riot acts may have been already read between the two factions.
Their differences played apart in the ongoing Gusii Sevens, with Ruto's allies blaming Dr Matiang'i for the supposed poor start of the tournament, arguing that he failed to take part as one of senior leader from the area.
"They should know that NACADA played it's role. It's under the interior ministry thus saying Dr Matiang'i did not participate is pure witch-hunt. They just came here to undermine him," Brian Mamboleo, a close confidant of Matiang'i said.
But Mr Sylvanus Osoro hit back: " There is a choreographed scheme to make me clash with the minister. I haven't linked him to the poor start of your tournament. These are just imaginations."
Several MPs allied to Dr Ruto had their security withdrawn a fortnight ago, a move that has been blamed on the minister. But Matiang'i insists it was part of restructuring of security details by the state.
Mr Antony Kibagendi, is said to be coordinating anti-Matiang'i activities across Gusii and the emerging differences on Gusii 7s is said to be part of the wide strategy to embarrass the minister.
According to Mamboleo, Kibagendi has 'little respect' for the minister, adding that he's responsible for intensifying social media onslaught against the powerful Interior boss.
"He (Kibagendi) has paid bloggers to undermine the CS. He is in charge of negative campaigns to potray the minister as a bad person. We shall not give him space and that is a guarantee," he said.
Efforts to get a comment from Kibagendi were futile but it's understandable he is among those chiding Dr Matiang'i over shambolic show in the ongoing tournament, accusing him of failing to support it.
