A fire broke on Monday morning and destroyed property worth millions of shillings at Genga Catholic Church in Bonchari constituency, Kisii County.
While confirming the sad incident area chief Edward Moenda said the church hosts over 150 sisters.
"The fire broke while the nuns were in class in the morning when security guards raised alarm and warned the nuns not to go near the fire. Nothing was salvaged during the inferno," he said.
Moenda noted that no one was injured in the inferno.
"Residents' efforts to put off the fire went in vain because the fire flames spread too fast due to the strong winds," said Moenda.
He appealed to local leaders and well-wishers to off financial support for the church to be constructed afresh.
"Probe is ongoing to establish the real cause of the fire though we suspect the fire broke as a result of an electric fault," said the chief.
Asumbi Parish Priest Fr Richard Odhiambo the inferno displaced the nuns.
"It is unfortunate that the over the 150 sisters who have been staying within the church premises were displaced due to the inferno," said Odhiambo.
