A middle-aged man was on Wednesday arraigned at Ogembo law courts where he was charged for defiling a 3-year-old girl.
The suspect Brian Mogaka Chege appeared before Resident Magistrate Gloria Barasa.
Mogaka is said to have committed the offence on March 28, 2019, in Kebere Sub-location, Gucha, Kisii County.
The prosecution informed the court that the suspect tried to escape after committing the heinous act but, members of the public nabbed him and surrendered him to police officers.
The suspect denied the defilement charges levelled against him claiming that the victim's family was fixing him because they have been having a disagreement over a piece of land.
He pleaded with the court to release him on a reasonable bond arguing that he will not skip court proceedings or interfere with witnesses.
Magistrate Barasa released him on an Sh150,000 bond.
Mentioning of the case was set on April 15, 2019, and the court warned the suspect against any attempt to threaten the victim's family or witnesses.
