The politics of Nakuru County cannot be analyzed without Kinuthia Mbugua in the matrix.
Mbugua was the first governor of the county.
He had served in various positions in the civil service before venturing into politics.
Mbugua posses excellent leadership, managerial and administrative skills which undoubtedly made him the right choice for the people of Nakuru.
Prior to capturing the Nakuru gubernatorial position in 2013, he had served as a district officer in the then Nakuru district in the 1980s as well as being the Administration Police commandant.
He narrowly lost to Lee Kinyanjui in the 2017 Jubilee nominations and was appointed State House comptroller by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During his tenure as the first governor of the cosmopolitan Nakuru, Mbugua launched several development programs.
The Molo-Olenguruone-Kibunja road which had been in bad state for long was rehabilitated.
As the first county boss, he must have had links with investors abroad and it would be prudent that he keeps in touch to ensure they invest in the county.
Despite losing in 2017, Mbugua’s contribution to development programs should continue to ensure the people of Nakuru benefits.
As the State House comptroller, the soft-spoken politician should ensure that he lobbies more for Nakuru.
He is the right figure to champion for equal distribution of resources in the county, question accountability of elected leaders and ensure the big four agenda are made real to the people of Nakuru.
