Former United Nations Secretary Kofi Annan's death has left the World in shock. Annan was among the most powerful men alive before he met his death.

Anan will be remembered for the role he played to ensure Kenya was at peace following the Post-Election Violence. Several leaders from the World has continued to mourn the death of Annan following the announcement of the incident. 

Some of the leaders who have mourned Anan’s death are Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga. "In 2008, he helped Kenya end post-election violence. He is an enigma and his death is tragic to the entire world," Raila said. 

In his eulogy, Deputy President William Ruto said that Kenya will never forget him. 

Here are 7 things you didn’t know about him as the world mourns his demise. 

1. He was the 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations. The organization is tasked with maintaining peace in the World. It was founded in 1945 after the end of the World War.

2. He joined the UN’s World Health Organization in 1962 where acted as budget officer before he rose through ranks.

3.  He's the founder of Koffi Annan Foundation. He later rose through ranks because of his good work.

4.  He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2001 for his role in bringing peace to the World.

5. He was among the founders of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) where he served as the chairman.

6. He was the chairman of the African Progress Panel. The panel has been fighting for equity among different groups.

7. He has authored different books including A Life in War and Peace (2012)
