Sickle cell aneamia is a genetic disorder primarily characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production, which changes the shape of red blood cells into a crescent or sickle shape.
The symptoms of this disease include intense pain, continuous heart rates, yellowing of skin or jaundice, poor vision, skin ulcers, breathing difficulties among others.
But according to Dr. Sunday John Ameh and Dr. Benjamin Umar Ebeshi who are both researchers from Nigeria’s National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), they have discovered herbs that could cure this disease.
In part of their research as reported by realnatural, the following herbs, in the first phase of their clinical trial, have been found to be effective:
1. Eugenia caryophyllus alias cloves
This herb is highly endowed with powerful antioxidants that generally encapsulates the skin against associated risks.
Apart from this wonderful benefit, reports indicate that the herb increases haemoglobin levels in blood hence aiding in smooth flow of oxygen across the body and thus keeping the disease in check.
2. Sorghum bicolor
This herb has a number of medical functions in the body. Its main function is to promote the production of hemoglobin. This particular herb has been found to inhibit the action of sickle cell anemia in the body.
3. Piper guineense seed
Another herb that keeps the malady at bay is this seed. It is highly loaded with an important phytochemical, betaine and antioxidants that are of great importance in the body.
The seeds aid in boosting the production of blood and breaking down blood clots hence elevating the smooth flow of blood across the body organs.
