The war of words between African Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto has escalated.

Speaking on Saturday at Lifunga Kobiero Village in Ugenya, Raila said that Pope Francis had rejected the gift Ruto handed Kisumu Catholic Archbishop Philip Anyolo during his instalment on January 12. 

The remarks have were not received well by Ruto’s camp.

 Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has come forth with his gun blazing following Raila’s claims. 

On Monday, the senator said that it is only in this nation where a pope calls a magician and he does so use a Nigerian number.

“It’s only in Kenya where the Pope calls a mganga before calling a Cardinal. To make it worse he uses a Nigerian number,” he said through his Tweet account.

The rift between the two leaders continues to widen amid the alleged loss of Shs 21 billion allocated to Arror and Kimwarer dams. Ruto has insisted that no coin has been lost in the project as claimed by leaders allied to Raila.

 He has faulted Raila’s allies for politicizing the war against graft as succession debates heat up. 

The second in command has assured Kenyans that the Jubilee regime is doing its best to ensure corruption is a thing of the past.
