Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua Kanyi popularly as Jaguar has mourned veteran Kikuyu musician John De Mathew.
In a tweet, the first time legislator said De Mathew provided him with inspiration as he was growing up.
Jaguar said he grew up on a staple of the Kikuyu musician's songs as he expressed his sadness at his passing.
He branded De Mathew's demise as untimely.
"While growing up, I listened a lot to John De Mathew. His music inspired me greatly to become the musician I am today. I am Deeply saddened by his untimely demise following a tragic road accident today.. May His soul rest well in eternal peace. #ripDeMathew," he tweeted.
News of De Mathew's death triggered an outpouring of grief from Kenyans on social media.
Media reports indicate that he lost his life in a grisly road accident at Blue Post, Thika after the vehicle he was moving in rammed into a lorry.
De Mathew's songs were all club-bangers and enjoyed a lot of airplay on Kikuyu radio stations.
Even though he sang in Kikuyu, his fame went beyond the Kikuyu nation.
