Details are emerging that Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is planning to resign his seat following an altercation with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kuria started a bare-knuckle fight with the President when he accused him of neglecting the Mt Kenya region despite voting for him overwhelmingly.
The vocal MP made the remarks on New Year’s Eve causing a storm within the Mt Kenya region as other leaders rushed to defend the president.
President Kenyatta, while speaking in Mombasa told off Kuria, saying that every corner of Kenya deserves development and not just the Cetral region because the head of state comes from there.
“Hawa Washenzi waniwache (These fools should let me be) development is for every Kenyan in every region and that is our focus as an administration,” said President Uhuru.
But a defiant Kuria shot back at Uhuru.
“H.E the President is 100% right. He is spot on. We need development in every corner of this country. It is in that spirit and in line with the President’s position that I believe Mt Kenya region also deserves development just like any other region. Right now it’s not happening,” Kuria said.
On Wednesday, Kuria’s handler Josiah Murigu said Kuria was contemplating resigning through a presser but feared to appear in public over his security.
“The MP fears for his life and until his security is guaranteed, he does not want to appear in public and as such the press conference stands cancelled,” Murigu said.
