Mount Kenya voters have often been accused of political 'betrayal' whenever it comes to the choice of picking the head of state.
Mostly the Mt Kenya communities will prefer to rally behind their own presidential candidate if elections in the past two decades are anything to go by.
But why is this? Don't they trust other communities with the country's top leadership?
1. Political conmanship by area leaders
Most of the time during elections, area leaders go round telling people that if they elect one of their own, their lives will be better than if somebody else was in power.
But this is all conmanship as their lives are no better than those of other Kenyans elsewhere.
2. Tribal mobilization among other communities
It is not only Mt Kenya voters that rally behind their own leaders, other communities also do before forming alliances with other communities.
3. The feeling of political besiegement
This can perhaps be well explained by the 2007 narrative of 41 against one. This narrative made many Mt Kenya voters feel secluded and besieged and the only way to face the common 'enemy' was to unite behind one of their own.
4. Bad political experience
This happened during President Moi's 24-year rule when he literally' terrorized' Mt Kenya voters for being opposed to his administration. This seems to come to play during almost every electioneering period.
