Locals at Block 10 Estate in Eldoret town are up in arms over the increased number of stray dogs in the area .
This follows an incident where a body of a 70-year-old woman was found mauled by the dogs beyond recognition.
The body was discovered on Saturday afternoon by a caretaker of a residential building in the area.
Locals believe the dogs attacked the woman on Friday night.
According to Kubulgeny Location Assistant chief Kemei Sitienei, the dogs were left by individuals who moved out of the area leaving them behind now becoming a threat to residents.
"We are saddened by the incident where stray dogs at airstrip forest killed an elderly woman by the name Josephina Kipyego and ate her body beyond recognition," said Kemei.
Speaking to Hivisasa on Sunday at Block 10, Kemei called on the government to handle the situation.
"We want the veterinary department to tell us the way so that we may take stern actions may be taken immediately Since we are now living in fear not knowing who will be attacked the next day," added the area assistant chief.
He said they have reported the incident to the Ward administrator but they are yet to get feedback on the next course of action.
Kipchumba Ruto, a resident at Block 10 said the stray dogs have brought more harm than good and called on the county government to help them by killing the dogs failure to which they will take the law in their hands.
Philemon Kimutai said the stray dogs should be killed since it's a security threat and they may cause more damage especially to school going children.
