Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has heightened is succession campaigns ahead of 2022 power struggle in Nyamira.
With the four years to go, the race to succeed Governor John Nyagarama is already crowded to the core.
Some of the leading contenders include ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and Walter Nyambati, who lost narrowly to Nyagarama in 2017.
Others are former MPs James Gesami, Mwancha Okioma, Joseph Kiangoi, Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Fred Matiang'i.
Interestingly, Nyambati has since challenged Nyagarama's victory at the Supreme Court after two unsuccessful attempts in lower courts.
But Matiang'i, who is keen to make his first trial, is said to be luring Mr. Momanyi to withdraw from the race.
"He is in talks with Momanyi to drop his bid. The talks are in advanced stage.
"The minister is keen to have Momanyi defend his seat. This is in the pipeline and an agreement might be reached soon," said a senior politician.
To appease Nyagarama, whose favourite still remains Mr. Momanyi, Matiang'i has been working behind scenes to have Nyambati withdraw court duel.
During the burial of Nyagarama's son, Matiang'i, a Jubilee stalwart, asked Nyambati to withdraw the case.
"We need to focus on development and that is the most important thing. Elections are now over," he said.
Also, Matiang'i is said to be closely working with Raila to scuttle Bosire's chances, anothrr favourite in 2022.
When Raila attended Henry Obwocha's funeral, Matiang'i's attitude towards him had tremendously changed.
