An angry bodaboda rider in Getare, Nyamira County on Monday attacked and injured his neighbour accusing him of killing his cow.
Villagers said the rider Fred Nyamote, an orphan, bought a cow two weeks ago but, it died on Monday morning.
"Nyamote's cow trespassed to his neighbour Nelson Onsongo's farm and destroyed vegetables. Onsongo beat the cow and drove it away, something Nyamote suspected caused its death," said an elder Antony Mosioma.
Mosioma said angered Nyamote stormed Onsongo's house and started beating him before members of the public rushed to the homestead to intervene.
A local chief Alfred Gisore urged locals to stop doubting each other over witchcraft.
"Witchcraft is an outdated practice which must stop in the community. I am appealing to residents to stop doubting each other over witchcraft," Gisore noted.
He said Nyamote was questioned why he believed that Onsongo killed his cow but he could not confirm with evidence.
The chief said the victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment following the injuries he sustained during the attack.
He said the dead cow was later buried by locals.
