The APs at the camp were put to task on how a middle-aged man arrested earlier in the week for allegedly defiling a form one student from Oldonyo Mara secondary school for three days inside a lodging in Bahati was released.

The man was handed over to the APs by the student’s relatives after she revealed their sexual escapades.

Reports that the suspect was freed made members of the public angry.

The suspect is said to have given Sh8,000 as a bribe. Sh5,000 was allegedly taken by the police as the mother of the student was given Sh3,000 to go seek medication for her daughter. The girl's mother confessed to receiving Sh3,000 from one of the APs.

She added that she accepted the money because she had no cash to seek treatment for her daughter but is still determined to pursue justice.

Details also emerged over reports that police asked for a Sh60,000 bribe but the suspect's mother said that she can only be able to raise Sh30, 000 in two installments of Sh8, 000 and Sh22, 000 payable by August 3.

The suspect is said to have handed over a motorbike as surety for the amount. Our writer saw the motorbike inside the AP camp.

According to a treatment card from Kabazi sub-county hospital, the girl was infected with a sexually transmitted disease.

David Kuria from the Nakuru human rights network (NAHURINET) condemned the act.

“It was wrong for the APs to handle the case locally instead of handing it over to colleagues at Kirengero police station. We are therefore calling on Independent Policing Oversight Authority to take over the matter and investigate it accordingly,” said Kuria.

Daniel Mukera, a resident, condemned the incident. He said cases of “out of court settlement after parting with a bribe” are rampant in the AP camp.

It also emerged that the suspect who locals describe as a sex pest is married with two children. He reportedly married his wife when she was still a school girl.

Former Kabazi ward MCA Mwangi Waithaka, who on Thursday made efforts to report the matter to the sub-county education officer, the sub-county AP commander and the Subukia deputy county commissioner, called on a thorough probe to the matter.

Subukia AP commander Lpelewan Lerubat could not be reached on phone for comment and did not reply to text messages.

Contacted for comment Subukia Deputy county commissioner Mpembe Hirbae Kaduda said that the matter was brought to his attention yesterday evening adding that senior AP officers from Subukia Sub County were handling the matter.

Efforts to trace the suspect from his home early today were futile as he is said to have fled.
