A section of political, religious and cultural leaders who were reportedly set to endorse Deputy President William Ruto's presidential bid have apparently changed their minds.

The group was set to make the major declaration at the Coptic Church in Kisumu on Sunday, as the DP was expected to lead a fundraiser in the church.

However, he skipped the event and was represented by Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, with the team led by pastor John Pesa now rubbishing the announced plan.

The other was the Luo Council of Elders Chair Mzee Nyandiko Ongadi who now claims that endorsing Ruto was never the plan and he solely attended the function for the fundraiser.

“I was invited to the Thanksgiving meeting to support the church. My office had no political agenda that was to be discussed during the meeting,” Ongadi told the Standard.

The political class was represented by Citizens Convention Party (CCP) leader Grace Akumu among other members of the clergy and the Luo Council of Elders.

However, the change of narratives comes only hours after Ongadi and his team openly told the media that they love the DP and are in full support of his 2022 election plans.

They made the declaration after waiting for the DP for hours.
