A top government official in Garissa County government has gone missing following a scare caused by a summon letter by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
For the better part of this week, County Secretary Abdi Muhumed was missing from his office, with sources that sought anonymity intimating that a letter that has since been said to be fake had forced him out of his office, over fears of an impending arrest.
However, in a statement released on Thursday through the Garissa County Government Press Unit, the county has poked holes into the alleged letter, terming it fake and malicious.
"It has come to our attention that a letter purportedly sent by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) addressed to the County Secretary Garissa County is making rounds on social media sites, wherein it is mentioned that the county Secretary has been summoned by EACC," the statement reads in part.
The statement further clarified to members of the public that the alleged letter is fake.
"The County Government of Garissa would like to inform the members of the public that the purported letter by the EACC is fake."
Amid the developments, EACC is yet to issue a statement on the alleged letter.
In the 'fake' letter, Muhumed was to appear before EACC detectives on Thursday for grilling over alleged graft in the county.
