Bomet County Governor Joyce Laboso is among three women politicians who bagged gubernatorial seats in the 2017 general election.
Others are Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui).
Governor Laboso clinched the top seat defeating Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party leader Isaac Ruto.
With the 2022 succession debate gaining momentum in the county, Laboso is expected to defend her seat.
The Bomet county boss is, however, likely to face stiff competition from politicians who are eyeing the seat.
Here are politicians who could to give Governor Laboso a run for her money in the 2022 polls.
1. Beatrice Kones
The Bomet East MP is among veteran female politicians in the South Rift region.
Kones is the wife to the late Cabinet Minister and politician Kipkalya Kones.
She is among politicians who are expected to shape South Rift 2022 politics and her growing popularity could see her contest for a higher seat in the coming election.
2. Isaac Ruto
The former governor is likely to make an attempt to reclaim the seat in 2022.
Ruto is said to be revamping his Chama Cha Mashinani party in anticipation of the 2022 election.
3. Nick Salat
The KANU Party secretary-general lost his bid for the Bomet senatorial seat in the 2017 election.
With his political influence and popularity as KANU SG, Salat will definitely give Governor Laboso a run for her money should he decide to contest for the county's top seat.
4. Christopher Lang'at
The Bomet Senator is a political force to reckon with in the South Rift region.
Lang'at was among Bomet legislators who once walked out on President Uhuru Kenyatta during a function in the county.
He enjoys grass root support and is likely to give Governor Laboso sleepless nights should he opt to vie for the governor seat in the upcoming 2022 polls.
Only time will tell whether these politicians will be a threat to Dr Laboso in the 2022 election.
