Former Kenya Journalist John Githongo has also weighed in on the arrest of the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich over the loss of funds in the Arror and Kimwarer Dam Project.
In a tweet, Gitongo said that the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nordin Haji deserves credit over the move.
He said that the nation has continued to lag behind in terms of development because of the massive cases of runaway graft.
Githongo, a renowned Anti-corruption campaigner, also urged the DPP to ensure none of the suspects in the project, which is estimated to cost Sh.46 billion walks scot-free. The other suspects in the saga are Kamau Thugge (Treasury Principal Secretary), Jackson Kinyanjui (Treasury Director of resource mobilization) among others.
“CS Rotich's arrest a positive development. Hopefully, the entire ministry of finance gets a thorough clean up. They've cost Kenyans billions of dollars with their colleagues in other offices,” he tweeted.
Rotich and other suspects in the case have, however, denied any wrongdoing following a directive for their arrest. The officials have insisted that they are only victims of circumstances amid the loss of billions.
The CS has been pushing to be granted bail pending the hearing of the charges leveled against him.
