He is, however, yet to hint on the person he will endorse to take over his boots upon retirement, especially in his Luo Nyanza backyard where he draws most of his support.

However, the veteran politician is most likely to pass the baton to his sister Ruth Odinga, who is equally vocal, influential and able.

The former Deputy Governor of Kisumu remains the only person in the political Oginga dynasty with the credentials needed to lead the Luo community, following the death of Raila's son Fidel Odinga who was deemed his possible heir.

Also in the list is Raila's daughter Rosemary Odinga who despite showing interest of joining politics, is still on her starting phases and cannot, therefore, be entrusted with the heavy responsibility as of now.

Similarly, the former Prime Minister's elder Brother and ex-Bondo MP Oburu Oginga has since lost his political footing, and could suffer rejection should he be fronted, leaving Ruth as the only standing candidate.

On her part, Ruth has brought herself out as a powerful force and skilled grass root mobilizer, a characteristic that saw her play a major role in the ouster of former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, and the entry of current county boss Anyang' Nyong'o.

Having stood with Raila throughout his political career and fully participated in boosting his presidential bids, Ruth will have it easier winning the hearts of Luo people, considering that they observe Raila as their ultimate political leader.

And with her in the seat, the people will most likely see her as the next version of the leadership they have always had all the way from independence courtesy of Ruth's father and the nation's first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
