Political formations and alliances have already started being created with approximately four years to the next general election.
A number of senior politicians countrywide are expected to lock horns in the 2022 poll, in a bid to retain their seats or secure bigger positions.
Whereas the whole country will witness tough contests, three counties in Nyanza will have battles to watch out for.
Here are 3 contests to watch out for in 2022;
1. Governor Anyang' Nyong' vs Fred Outa
Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has just served for a year, where he has initiated alot of projects which may not be completed before 2022.
For this reason, the Prof may decide to defend his seat so as to complete the projects he initiated.
Should the Prof decide to defend his seat, it is highly likely that he will meet Senator Fred Outa in the contest.
This will be one of the tough contests since both are senior politicians in ODM, and are both close to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The math is further complicated by the fact that Outa campaigned for Nyong'o during the 2017 polls.
2. Gladys Wanga vs John Mbadi
Reports have indicated that both Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, and Minority Leader in the National Assembly John Mbadi, have set their eyes on the Homa Bay governorship.
The two vocal politicians boast of a large following in the area, with Wanga having been elected unopposed in the last polls.
In this particular race, whoever secures the blessing of Odinga, and the ODM ticket will almost be guaranteed of a win in the election proper.
3. James Orengo vs Nicholas Gumbo
To many, Siaya Senator James Orengo is a favorite to win the governorship, however, it will not be a smooth battle like it was in the last election.
Former Rarieda Legislator Nicholas Gumbo will give him a run for his money. Gumbo has a good track record which may help him secure extra votes in the region.
Being in the political cold, the politician also has time to conduct grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2022 polls.
