The election of nominated senator Beatrice Kwamboka as Senate Deputy Minority Whip has escalated differences between Raila Odinga and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi.

In a letter to Senate Speaker Kindiki Kithure, Minority Leader James Orengo informed the house that Ms. Kwamboka, a Raila Odinga staunch campaigner in Nairobi and Gusii, had been unanimously elected by 17 senators to take the position.

“I find and hold that on the basis of the letter from NASA leadership, Senator Were has been validly removed from her post as the Deputy Minority Whip and replaced by Senator Kwamboka,” said Prof Kindiki.

But in a rejoinder, Mudavadi's ANC has moved to Political Parties Dispute Tribunal to protest ouster of Petronilla Were from the position.

Secretary General Barack Muluka said he had obtained temporary orders restraining ODM from taking the position.

"It is undemocratic to treat coalition partners as such. I have obtained orders barring them from executing the plan."

And in Nyamira where Kwamboka comes from, a section of residents welcomed the move, terming it as a 'reward' for hardwork.

ODM Youth League Leader Dennis Marube wished Ms. Kwamboka all the best in her new roles.

"She is a staunch supporter of the party and we are very grateful for the privilege. I wish her all the best."
