Speaking in Mtwapa, Kilifi county on Monday, Wetangula claimed to have ditched the National Super Alliance (NASA) over betrayals from the coalition chief Raila Odinga.

However, the move is most likely aimed at confusing Kenyans into believing that he has dumped the Orange party leader when it is Odinga who actually sidelined him after he snubbed his January 30 unofficial presidential coronation.

Wetangula who has been unable to punish Odinga in line with his threats after his March ejection as Senate Minority Leader, has realised that he cannot, in any way, challenge the former Prime Minister and can no longer handle the embarrassment of remaining in the same quarters with him and is using the claim to cunningly get away.

Thirdly, the Bungoma Senator, despite claiming to have exited the alliance to concentrate on strengthening the party in preparation for the 2022 general elections, is simply trying to open himself and the party up for new political alliances.

He will be more than willing to join hands with any team portraying the potential of winning the presidential seat, provided that it does not include Odinga, to enable him mock the veteran leader as this way, he will have at least revenged.

His vow to go for the Presidency in the race is also another case of deceit, as he is intelligent enough to know that he cannot win the seat in his current political condition.

Wetangula's party is currently grappling with gaps in it and could not even beat Odinga's ODM in his Western Kenya homeland in last year's elections, ranking him among the weakest presidential hopefuls.

He is, therefore, only clinging on the dream to retain his relevance at a time when he seems to be losing it completely.
