Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has come up with what he says is a long lasting solution to a political rivalry that is always witnessed between members of the Kalenjin and Kikuyu community in the Rift Valley region.
The two communities have in the past engaged in ugly political fights with the worst being after the 2017 post-election violence that saw over 1,000 people killed, hundreds of Kenyans displaced and properties worth millions of shillings destroyed.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, the Jubilee legislator said intermarriage between the Kalenjins and Kikuyus will bring to an end the political rivalry.
He further said that through intermarriage, the issue of tribalism will be a thing of the part as members of the two communities will see each other as brothers and sisters.
"It is better to eat salt and ugali while you have peace rather than meat and you are not happy, let's bury tribalism through intermarriage and post-election violence will be a thing of the past,” insisted the two-time legislator.
Sudi further said once the Kalenjins and Kikuyus co-exist together peacefully, there will be no time the country will witness tribal violence resulting from an election.
“As leaders from Rift Valley, we will not allow anyone to take us back to the dark days and we will ensure that the two tribes always remain united before and during the elections,” he added.
