Speaking at Kyumbi in Mavoko, Machakos County on Saturday, Ngilu said the duo is indebted to ensure that the Kamba nation also benefits from the fruits of the handshake following former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kalonzo’s u-turns in the political arena.

Ngilu said though it is good to have peace in the country, the people's needs must come first.

“It is good to appreciate a peaceful country, but we need to go further than that and ensure that our people are not suffering from problems that can be solved by the handshake," said Ms Ngilu.

Ngilu also lamented that the Ukambani region has been sidelined over decades, adding that time has come for the leaders to fight for the people.

“This handshake should bring us together to see how we can use the resources we have to develop and help our youth to be productive,” she added.

A section of leaders led by Makeuni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has been asking Kalonzo to shed more light on the deal he struck with President Uhuru Kenyatta after landing top job.
