Speaking during the International Day of the Girl Child celebrations Thursday, the outspoken women rep bemoaned the exploitation and the violence that girls had been subjected to.

The leader, who was attending the event at Kenyatta University main campus added that Parliament should enforce such laws to punish "sponsors"

"Parliament should put such laws in place to punish 'sponsors' who are ruining our girls' lives. These shameless men should be squeezed...," she fired.

Deputy president's wife Rachel Ruto was also present.

Rachel advised young girls to stop receiving money and material favours from sponsors.

"Dignified women do not sleep with every Tom, Dick, and Harry," said Mrs Ruto.

"As girls, you are a gift to the world, and this issue of sponsors should not be in your lives. You don't need money from a man to survive," she added.

She urged university girls to shun such behaviours.

Also in attendance was the Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.

The leaders were concerned about how the culture of young girls having sponsors has gained impetus among university students.
