The AFCON 2019 qualifier match between Kenya and Ghana hangs in the balance, after the World football governing body FIFA issued the Ghanaian football federation.
FIFA gave GFA an ultimatum, saying it risks getting banned from football-related activities if they do not put their house in order.
This comes after the Ghanaian government disbanded the GFA over corruption allegations. The allegations came to the fore after a BBC expose, where one of the referees is accused of receiving bribes to fix or sway matches.
The governing body has since given the GFA 11 days to sort out their mess, or risk missing out on major tournaments.
The team is currently preparing to face Harambee Stars but will risk honouring the match if FIFA makes good their threat. FIFA’s policies do not permit any outside intervention including government officials.
Part of a letter sent to the GFA by FIFA and signed by Secretary General Fatuma Samoura reads: If the petition to start the liquidation process of the GFA is not withdrawn by Monday 27 August 2018 at 1100GMT the GFA will be suspended with immediate effect.
