A new twist has emerged into the 2017 general elections after claims that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati's son might have been involved in an election irregularity.
A local daily published a story that Chebukati's son might have been involved in the testing of the KIEMS kit days ahead to the August elections against the advice of the IT experts.
Chebukati is said to have taken the kits and password to a 'personal consultant' who is believed to be Chebukati's son who generated a report that the IEBC chairman used it to raise concerns ten days to the elections.
The embattled IEBC chairman has also been accused of seeking clarifications from Safran Morpho without consulting CEO Ezra Chiloba and other commissioners.
"I am the head of the commission which comprises six commissioners and the CEO is the commission secretary. I am also the National Returning Officer of the Presidential elections. In that regard, I must know everything in matters elections. This is a duty I must do within the framework of the constitution," read part of Chebukati's letter to Safran Morpho.
