Seven Kenyans last weekend hit headlines after they were arrested for allegedly conning a Nairobi based billionaire Sh 10 million using president Uhuru’s name.

Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wajekeche, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Anthony Wafula  have since been in custody as their case continues to spark mixed reactions from Kenyans.

However, it was a moment of joy for the seven suspects after Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi ruled that they are released on an Sh20,000 bond or an alternative of Kenyan Sh10,000 cash bail after they denied the charges.

”The offence against the accused persons is a misdemeanour whose penalty is three years upon conviction," Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi noted in his ruling as quoted by the Daily Nation

The suspects allegedly called the businessman in late January aping President Uhuru Kenyatta and wanted to strike a land deal with him. 

They informed the tycoon that the land was situated around Kilimani area and they asked him to pay Ksh 1,000,000 for processing fee a deal which the tycoon blindly agreed to. 

The court has also instructed the suspects to report once every week to the investigating officer for three weeks and their case will be mentioned on March 11th this year.
