If a book is written about women in leadership in the North Rift region and lacks a chapter about Linah Jebii Kilimo, then most likely there will be some relevant content missing in it.
Her popularity greatly rose after she brilliantly captured the Marakwet East parliamentary seat in the 2002 general elections on a Democratic Party ticket.
The manner in which she took centre stage in empowering residents to desist from inter-tribal clashes and violence which had been on the rise in the constituency is a sure sign of her quality leadership.
As a result of her efforts and articulation of the social economic and political context of Marakwet East, peace was gradually restored in the area.
I opine that she is a leader whose contribution to the social, political and economic programs in the North Rift is still needed.
She was an assistant minister in President Mwai Kibaki’s government and has been always on the forefront championing for women rights and social-political freedom.
The zealous leader has a positive attitude that is enormous in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and over the years she has been assisting hundreds of young girls within and outside Elgeyo Marakwet County to evade FGM.
Her passion to eradicate FGM was polished by her appointment to the Anti Female Genital Mutilation Commission as chairperson in 2014.
Hence Linah Jebii Kilimo is a leader with excellent skills and passion in building peace in a society. She is a true inspiration to many young girls.
She has pregnant experience in political leadership and even if she doesn’t hold an elective position, she should be at the forefront of things by involving herself in a number of development programs in the region.
Her excellent oratory skills, ability to always visit her people on the ground to articulate development issues among other positive development records are the key reasons why I opine that her involvement in the North Rift’s social and political development agenda can be of huge benefit.
She has to maintain or improve her relationship with her supporters in Marakwet East by putting the elected leaders on the spot check so as to stir development programs.
Kilimo lost the Marakwet East parliamentary seat to Kangogo Bowen in the 2017 general elections. She deserves a political comeback because of the wild experience she owns in matters leadership.
I hope to see her soon in serious platforms of development and putting leaders on the spot check.
