One of such is Kapseret lawmaker Oscar Sudi who is now 'swimming' in money, fame and influence.

Sudi is also very close to Deputy President William Ruto, the man who controls the Kalenjin political affairs.

The two-time legislator was born of a squatter family in 1980, with both his parents peasants, but would with time begin working his way up.

He engaged in odd jobs like charcoal selling and delivery, grocery selling and touting which opened up his way.

In 2000, the then 20-year-old lad bought his first Peugeot 504 matatu and was a year later a proud owner of several more vehicles and a renowned car dealer.

With time, Sudi joined the political arena, and began as a financer and bankrolled several politicians but was allegedly dropped by the candidates whom he financed.

These included David Koros whom he supported for the Eldoret South MP seat in 2002, before doing the same for Peris Simam the following general election.

In 2013, he decided to go for it himself and easily clinched the Kapseret seat before securing reelection in the previous 2017 polls.

His closeness to Ruto seems to have done him a great favour, ranking him among the region's most influential politicians.

The outspoken lawmaker has since confirmed that he will not stop at that and has greater plans for the future.

"I have come from far and I am going far...nobody can stop me!” Sudi was once quoted by the Standard.
